New Signing: Andrew O'Connor
Andrew O'Connor is the latest new arrival at Ferrycarrig Park in the Summer transfer window, the 24 year old Waterford native returning back to the club having made 17 appearances for Wexford FC in the 2017 season. Andrew was mainly positioned at left back during his original spell at the club and scored two goals for us that season, both coming from the penalty spot in a Leinster Senior Cup 4th Round defeat to Shelbourne at Tolka Park, (the first competitive game for newly formed Wexford FC). He left the club in August that year and has most recently been playing for his local club in Dungarvan.
His other previous clubs include Waterford United, starting out at youth level (he was their U19 Player of the Year for 2013) before progressing to the senior team. He made 10 appearances at senior level in 2014 before returning to junior football with Tramore United in 2015. Andrew was back playing at League of Ireland level in 2016 when he joined Wexford Youths in the Premier Division, appearing 6 times, scoring once in a dramatic 5-4 win over Galway United at Ferrycarrig Park (Youths leading 5-0 before United scoring 4 goals in the last 30 minutes).
Andrew goes straight into Brian O'Sullivan's squad for Friday evening's SSE Airtricity League First Division game vs Cabinteely FC at Stradbrook, kick off is at 7:45pm. Wexford FC also have a Friendly match with EFL SkyBet League One side AFC Wimbledon to look forward to this weekend, The Dons visit Ferrycarrig Park as part of their pre-season schedule, kick off is set for 2pm on Saturday afternoon.
