Wexford FC RT @walshe14: Disappointing result but a learning curve for the season ahead⚽️ big one Friday 👊 https://t.co/epycle9R08

Wexford FC travel to Eamonn Deacy Park on Friday for our first encounter this season with Galway United. United have some very familiar faces to Wexford football fans in their ranks, none more so than Rosslare man and former Wexford Youths striker Danny Furlong and former Youths manager Shane Keegan.

This is the very first meeting between Wexford FC and Galway United who were relegated to the First Division last year and would consider themselves to be one of the strong favourites this year to go straight back up. After six games Galway currently sit 5th in the First Division table with 9 points while Wexford are 9th on 4 points. The last League outing for both teams resulted in draws, Wexfords 1-1 with Cobh Ramblers last Friday night in Ferrycarrig while Galway United were held scoreless with Longford Town in Eamonn Deacy Park. Both sides have faced early exits from the EA Sports Cup, Wexford at the hands of Cobh while Sligo Rovers knocked United out in Eamonn Deacy Park, so both teams are looking to get some valuable points out of the game on Friday night.

We spoke to Manager Damian Locke about the Cobh game and also about Friday nights big game with United:

"I was reasonably happy with our performance against Cobh and felt the result was a fair reflection on the game. As for Galway, I'm looking forward to it. Its a great facility for the boys to go play in. We'll go into it and prepare like every other game. Everyone should be available apart from Conor Sutton and Owen McCormack but we'll see after training tonight how everyone is."

It was good to see Conor Sutton back in Ferrycarrig last week doing some light training after his pre season injury and hopefully he'll be available for selection soon enough. Meanwhile, Aaron Dobbs excellent performances for Wexford FC this season was finally rewarded with a fine goal against Cobh and the Enniscorthy man will be looking to add to that in Galway.

Kick off in Eamonn Deacy Park is set for 7:45pm on Friday night.
