Women's National League Preview:  UCD Waves host Wexford Youths Women

This Sunday Wexford Youths Women return to the scene of one of their most memorable victories of 2017, when they travel to take on UCD Waves at Jackson Park.

In April this year the Youths pulled off an unlikely victory in a 7 goal thriller, coming from behind three times to win 4-3.  The stakes are even higher this time around, with Wexford in pole position in the WNL table with three games remaining.

UCD are currently sitting in 4th position in the WNL table, 7 points behind Wexford Youths with one game in hand.

Speaking to the club media team this week, key striker Rianna Jarrett was feeling positive about her team's position in the run-in.

"I think the squad is feeling good about the remaining games.  We have had a few weeks off from matches which gave us a chance to refresh both mentally and physically.  It's  an exciting time, everyone aims to be in contention for the title at the final stages of the season and we've put ourselves in a good position."

While Wexford have held the top spot for a number of weeks, it remains a four-horse race with any of UCD, Shelbourne and Peamount Utd. all still in contention.  Jarrett was keen to point out that the run-in will be taken one game at a time:

"At the moment we're just concentrating on ourselves, and how we're going to tackle each of our remaining opponents.  We've put ourselves in a great position with 3 games to go, of course we keep an eye out for other results.  It's very tight at the top of the table with ourselves, Peamount, Shels and UCD.  With everyone still having to play each other, more or less, points will be gained and dropped by all teams."

In fitness news, there will be late fitness tests for Nicola Sinnott, Becky Cassin and Edel Kennedy with an otherwise fully fit squad.  For the hosts UCD, Irish international Áine O'Gorman is a possible absentee, after coming off with an injury in a qualifying match against Northern Ireland earlier this month.

Kickoff on Sunday in Jackson Park is set for 2.00pm.

There be live updates available on the official club twitter account.
