Manager on Monday (17.04.2017)
Manager Damian Locke was disappointed with Friday's result against Cobh Ramblers.
"I was disappointed with how we started. Cobh's first 20 minutes was probably the best performance we had faced all season. They started brilliantly, and could've been out of sight but for some brilliant goalkeeping from Corey Chambers."
It was the 22nd minute when a long throw from defender Craig McCabe led to the breakthrough and Adam Hanlon finished from the edge of the area.
"Adam got us on the score sheet against the run of play with a great strike and it seemed to settle us down. Conceding the equaliser the way we did, considering the Cobh pressure earlier in the game, including a penalty save, was frustrating. It was probably their weakest effort. We responded brilliantly and should've had a penalty of our own shortly after conceding."
"The second half was possibly our best 45 minutes of the season. Cobh couldn't get out of their own half, and we had numerous chances, but the ball just wouldn't break for us. I'm extremely disappointed that they scored from their only chance of the half because we switched off from a set piece and the boys know that's not acceptable."
Speaking about Friday's trip to Lissywollen to face second-from-bottom Athlone Town, Locke said, "We have plenty of positives to take in to the game as it's clear to see things are starting to click for us. Unfortunately at the moment, that little bit of luck others are getting in front of goal just isn't happening for us."
Friday's match in Athlone kicks off at 7:45pm.
